Five years ago right around the same time I'm posting this now, I found out I was preggo with my eldest and then all of a sudden I blinked and I turned 39, have two kids, moved to the country and this is life. Wouldn't trade it for the world. 🌍 💗

Truly, this first day of school for us was just another Monday in disguise. Same school - different door, familiar teachers - different lunch protocols.

The beginning of September for me is also when I reflect on the year due to my upcoming birthday, work gets busier - people bustling at the seams to finish their projects they had on their January goal lists before the end of the year - and the crisp fresh air that September brings.

Today we’re sitting at a “feels like” 41degrees (C) and it’s a HOT fresh start and somehow I still cried when I dropped my girls off at the same place I picked them up on Friday.

But I’ve been noodling on so many things this summer and working towards them - I’m just as excited as AL was when the front gate of her kindergarten class opened - smiles, excitement and dove right in without looking back.

This morning we said … “hey, do you want to use those coupons we have for safari Niagara today?” And it was the best decision we made all summer … ✌🏼🍦☀️🦒🛝🎡💦

“Your daughter, she’s a truth teller,” I was

“Your daughter, she’s a truth teller,” I was told a few weeks ago by a very wise 8 year old.

I loved this assertion because I do have a truth telling daughter.

She doesn’t like surprises.
She doesn’t like metaphors.
She doesn’t like sarcasm.

She doesn’t like fake.
and she doesn’t like lies.

In our society, it means she’s “different”… neurodivergent.

In our home, it means we get to tell her the truth in creative, age-appropriate ways. It means we get to show her how truth and kindness work together.

“You’re right, she is a truth teller. What happened?” I asked.

“I asked her if she liked my purse - she said ‘YUCK, no!’”

“Oh, that’s a tough one to hear,” I replied. “But the thing about fashion and style is that not everyone is going to like the things you do, and that’s ok. So if you love the purse and it is YOUR style - that’s what matters - that’s fashion! She told you HER truth, not yours, and both are real. The purse is beautiful to you, and that is what matters. Got it?”

She thought about it, smiled and nodded.

And that's the story of how I accommodated my daughter that day - by sharing and encouraging a person who didn't understand how to be okay with truth, with kindness, even if that truth wasn't her own.

That's all accommodations are.

On Sunday, as my mom continues her purge of our ch

On Sunday, as my mom continues her purge of our childhood home, she dropped off a huge box of stuff from my old room. I opened it up and discovered TONS - like just TONS - of assignments from when I was at @uwindsor for Communications, from my childhood, the novel I'd written based on my diaries from ages 17 - 19, poems, essays, treatments for one-act plays 🤯 and one piece that particularly stood out to me I had no recollection of even writing.

It was an assignment to describe the environment, feelings, surroundings of being critiqued by the writer in residence. I remember how hard this was for me to write - I was in a class one of the professor hadn't originally wanted me in (my submissions weren't good enough) - but the other professor of the class made him because he believed in my work.

Throughout this essay, in my nervousness, while the writer in residence critiqued my year's masterpiece - the final thought of the essay was this acclaimed author said "your written communication is in the top 5% of your generation and it shouldn’t be wasted” I was encouraged to submit something for publishing and I guess it was true because the point of the work was to describe it. Thank goodness for writing it down, I'd have no idea it was ever said to me.

It got me thinking about this all week, that in 20 years since I wrote that - since that was said to me - why I haven't written something and submitted it for publication? Why have I never remembered this beautiful piece of compliment? Why I'd not remembered this A grade from my professor and someone who had originally dismissed my work? This accomplishment in this act alone?

It may be something you don't know about me, you may think I'm someone who's always lived her dream - building a business doing what I love - making websites. And while I DO love making websites, and helping others create impact for their dreams, the thing you don't know about me - it was never my dream.

It was never my dream.
